Raising money for Crisis Counselling

Supporting the Sunlight Centre ANON Exhibition 2019

This weekend, I was proud to again support the Sunlight Centre's ANON Art Exhibition with the donation of my 'Perfect Avocado' painting and volunteering on the night to help the centre raise funds to continue to provide free crisis counselling for teens and adults in Queensland.

The ANON Art Exhibition is a great concept for a number of reasons!  Firstly - it is one of the major fundraising events for the Sunlight Centre with a wide range of works available from $25 upwards.  Monies raised from art sales, drinks and raffle tickets all go to providing funds to support the crisis and suicide prevention counselling the Ken and the team offer.

Secondly, ANON provides an avenue for artists of all levels to exhibit and sell art for a good cause - anonymously! (As the name suggests, each piece is hung anonymously until it is purchased and the buyer receives the artist's details and synopsis of the work). In 2018, I donated 2 custom A6 sized oil painting for the ANON exhibition and proudly they both sold for $50 each. This was so exciting for me and really gave me confidence in what I was doing with my art. It was also one of the first times I had ever painted an artwork which expressed my feelings about how anxiety feels.

In 2019, I donated a piece called 'Perfect Avocado' which as a simple piece with me exploring the use of different shades of greens.  It was pretty awesome to see it hung up in the gallery alongside some well-known artists such as Alesandro Ljubicic, Beth Mitchell, Vincent Devine and celebrities including big wave surfer Ross Clarke-Jones.
